MISSION
STATEMENT:
The Ministry of Mothers Sharing (MOMS) creates in women an awareness
of the inner sacred self, while at the same time teaching them new ways
to inspire, encourage and affirm each other. Through the process of personal
and spiritual growth, women have the opportunity to clarify their values,
claim their own giftedness and bring these new strengths to their family
relationships and to the Christian Community.
BACKGROUND:
M.O.M.S. was created in the fall of 1986 by Paula Hagen, O.S.B. and a
group of mothers at St. Timothy's Parish in Mesa, Arizona. It was
designed to encourage prayer, discussion and friendships between
mothers of all ages. St. Timothy's has offered over 30 M.O.M.S. classes
facilitated by mothers. In 1993, it was published and was marketed
nationally. Over 50% of the participants have continued in on-going
study groups and have been more actively involved as leaders in a
variety of community areas. Currently over 75 dioceses and 15 retreat
centers in the United States and Ecuador have initiated M.O.M.S.
OBJECTIVES:
- To gather
mothers together to form a network of mutual support in a chaotic
society;
- To provide
a group experience of learning, praying, and ministering to each
other;
- To introduce
mothers to opportunities for personal and spiritual growth through
group dynamics;
- To increase
communication skills and use of prayer rituals in daily family life;
- To increase
their awareness of the community resources and provide opportunities
for ministry.
