THE NEXT TRAINING WILL BEGIN IN 2006 THROUGH THE MARRIAGE, FAMILY & RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY OFFICE

This is a process of formation and certification for anyone interested and involved in Family Ministry. This process would benefit many people, including Parish Family Life Contacts, Parish staff members who want to learn how to incorporate family awareness and sensitivity into their designated areas of ministry,(e.g. catechists, DRE's, youth ministers), School Administrators & staff, outreach workers, and pastoral care givers for young Adults, marriage preparation Couples, NFP Teachers, Pro-life volunteers, and other Lay Ministers. This is also especially for Parents, the first and most important family ministers.

This process involves 8 week-end meetings over a period of 2 years, including 2 "Come and See Conferences", one in 2002 and one in 2003. There will also be ongoing mentoring by diocesan staff, completion of select required reading and written reflections, and a final project of your choosing which applies your learning to an actual ministry situation.

The cost of the Certification process is $600 for the 2 years, plus the fee for the Come and See Conference (usually around $50-$60), plus rooms and meals. During the 6 other week-end meetings, housing will be provided with host families, unless other accommodations are desired, and meals will be provided on Saturday & Sunday. If you choose another type of accommodation, the cost and reservations will be your responsibility. All books and materials are covered in the cost.

Who will instruct the courses? Guest instructors from Catholic Universities and several dioceses aroung the country will serve as faculty for our certification program. Also Diocesan staff will assume part of the responsibility for training and formation. All instructors will have at least a Master's Degree in their fields. Instructors will be approved by the diocese and will be clergy and lay, men and women.

The Family Ministry Certification Process will be offered again in 2006,with the dates to be announced. For pre-registration, please go to Registration form, print it off and send it in to the Catholic Family Ministry Office.

This process meets the
formation guidelines set out by the

"Families face many difficult issues, yet they also have the gifts and strengths to develop healthy ministry within and among themselves with the support of the parish Church." F. Gerald Foley, Family Centered Church

Personal remarks about the certification program:

"I learned so much during our Family Certification classes - to help in ministry and for my own family. One of the best parts was becoming a "family" with all of the participants. I really miss seeing everyone on a regular basis. I always looked forward to our classes." Wyoma Groenenberg, St Anthony's, Casper

"I enjoyed the Family Ministry Certification process. I enjoyed reading, new ideas and especially being with others throughout the diocese (and Nebraska) with similar interests. The people, presenters and our group - new ideas and resources were energizing. My disappointment is after certification. It seems like there is so much to do and progress is slow, but every step forward is valuable. Marilyn Crull, St. Patrick's, Casper

"It was a wonderful experience! I enjoyed so much working as a "family", thinking family, talking family. Besides our personal families at home, we, as a group, grew as a family. MaryAnn Cummins, Buffalo
